Program Overview – 500-Hour Pathway

1. Certification & Yoga Alliance Registration

The 500-hour pathway is completed in two stages:

  • Stage 1 – 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training: foundational TTC (RYS 200)
  • Stage 2 – 300-Hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training: advanced TTC (RYS 300)

Once you have successfully completed both stages and hold a 200- and 300-hour certificate from our RYS 500 school, you can apply with Yoga Alliance (USA) to register as an RYT® 500.

2. Your 500-Hour Journey – Flexible, Integrated Path

You can choose to complete your 500 hours with us in different ways: back-to-back trainings, over several seasons, or by combining in-person and online formats. The curriculum is designed so each step builds on the last.

I started taking classes in 2019 and then decided to attend the teacher training in India. I had never thought of teaching yoga myself, but something in me told me I had to go. This training completely enhanced my personal practice and the way I think. We spent our days in a traditional ashram, learning all aspects of yoga with dedicated and experienced teachers. We also went on adventures up into the mountains and hiked up to the tallest temples...

What is a 500 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Pathway?

A 500 Hour Yoga Teacher Training pathway is the complete training journey from beginner teacher to advanced teacher. It combines a 200 Hour foundational YTT with a 300 Hour Advanced YTT. Together, these fulfill the training requirement to register with Yoga Alliance as an RYT 500.

Who is eligible for the 500 Hour Yoga Teacher Training pathway?

You can begin the 500-hour pathway if you are ready to commit to long-term study and practice. Many students start with no teaching experience and join our 200 Hour YTT as their first step. If you already hold a 200 Hour certificate (from us or another school), you may join directly at the 300 Hour level and complete your pathway that way.

What will I learn across the 500 Hour Yoga Teacher Training pathway?

Over the full 500 hours, you will first build strong foundations in asana, pranayama, meditation, philosophy and teaching skills. Then you will deepen into advanced asanas and sequencing, subtle body, refined pranayama and meditation, applied anatomy, Ayurveda and professional teaching methodology. You will also complete extensive teaching practicums with feedback and mentoring.

Is your 500 Hour Yoga Teacher Training pathway Yoga Alliance certified?

Yes. Himalaya Yoga is registered with Yoga Alliance as an RYS 200, RYS 300 & RYS 500. Completing both the 200 Hour and 300 Hour trainings with us qualifies you to apply as an RYT 500, an internationally recognized advanced yoga teacher credential.

Where can I complete the 500 Hour Yoga Teacher Training pathway and how do I choose locations?

You can complete your 500-hour pathway in Rishikesh and Goa (India) and in selected retreat centers in Spain and Italy, as well as through blended online formats. Many students choose India for at least one stage of training to experience traditional ashram life, and Europe or online for accessibility and travel comfort.

Can I teach professionally after completing the 500 Hour Yoga Teacher Training pathway?

Yes. After completing both the 200 Hour and 300 Hour YTTs and registering as an RYT 500 with Yoga Alliance, you hold one of the most recognized advanced yoga teacher credentials worldwide. Many graduates go on to teach group classes, private sessions, workshops, retreats and specialized programs.
